Bean Bag Game-Unka Don’s rules
Object of the Game
First person or team to score 21 points exactly.
Equipment:
2 boards (placed 20 feet apart at the front of the box)
6 bean bags (3 for each team)
2 or 4 players
2 players. Both players are at the same end.
4 players. 1 member of each team at opposite ends.
Start of play
A round consists of throwing all six bean bags (3 for each team)
For the first round a coin toss decides who goes first
Hint: It is an advantage to go last.
This is called having the hammer.
After the first round the team, that scores the points goes first.
If no points are scored in a round, the team that scored last continues to go first.
Players at one end take turns throwing the beanbags at the hole
until all six bags have been thrown.
Players must throw from behind the front edge of the box.
A bag should not be moved until the round is over and scoring
has been decided.
Scoring
Only bags that go into the hole count for points.
One point for each bag in the hole.
It doesn't matter how they go in
Roll in off the ground
Bounce in from the box
Slide in from the top of the box
Get knocked in by another players bag
All bags in the hole are counted for points
The last bag in the hole gets all the points for that round
This is the advantage of going last
A bag belongs to the player that threw the bag throughout the
whole round
See the “Special case” outlined below
You must score 21 points exactly. If a team’s score total is
more than 21 points at the end of the round then that team
must go back the number of points that they scored that round.
Example: Team ‘A’ starts the round at 19 points. At the end of
the round, they take three points. That puts them on 22.
Since they are over 21 points they must go back the number of points they scored (3). They are now on 16 (19 - 3 points
that they scored = 16)Unfortunately, since they scored the
points they also have to go first On the next round.
Special case: To explain this it is important to remember: The
last bag in the hole gets the points no matter what.
Example: Team ‘A’ throws a bag that lands on the board and stays
there. Team ‘B’ throws a bag that goes in the hole. Then team
‘A’s bag slides down and goes in the hole. At this point the
points belong to team ‘A’ (the last bag in the hole). Unless
team ‘B’ throws another bag in the hole, the points are
awarded to team ‘A’. Another unfortunate thing about this
rule is that team ‘A’ must take the points even if this puts
them over 21 and makes them go back.
