Bean Bag Construction |
|
The bean bag boxes are built from construction grade lumber, plywood and 1 X 2's. I usually cut the pieces for 3, 6, or 12 games at a time. Then assemble the boxes in mass.
I glue and clamp the pieces then put it together with dry wall screws. All of the top screw holes and blemishes are back filled with wood filler and sanded smooth. ( Or as smooth as I can.)
Each piece gets at least two coats of primer both front and back. I sand, lightly in between primer coats just to make it stick better. I want to cut out the sanding but it is just not worth skimping here. If you don't do it right the paint comes off and you have to start over.
After the halves are assembled I paint the inside and sides of the boxes with a solid color. I leave the faces white so I have a painting surface for my graphics. The fun part for me is painting the surfaces. I use my air brush and Createx brand paint to put my ideas on the surface. When I have the design that I want I put at least two coats of polyurethane over the design to protect the art work. I also put two coats of polyurethane over the sides and back support.
The back supports slide into the box. The halves are hinged together with a removable pin
All of the pieces fit together into a one piece carrying package about 2 ft square and 3 inches deep. the bean bags fit in the box. A simple string fastener holds the two sides together while you carry it around. Each game weights about 15 lbs. with the bean bags.
